Sisterhood

THE WOMEN OF REFORM JUDAISM (WRJ) organization, formerly referred to as Sisterhood, is the most versatile resource of our congregation. WRJ members work tirelessly for the good of the youth of their individual communities. WRJ members utilize their time, talents and resources by working in many different ways; an example is the sponsorship of the Sunday School where the classes are taught by WRJ members as well as parents of the children.

The Youth Group is supported and directed by Sisterhood members on a rotational basis. Financial support by donations is given to the Temple youth as well as enabling many young people opportunities to attend functions outside the community or affording individual travel to Israel for those interested.

The work of WRJ is carried out through the various committees and task forces organized into Departments on Religious Living, Religious Action, Membership and Leadership Development, and Advancement of WRJ projects.

The Abuse Centers in our area receive tremendous support from our WRJ organization. The H.O.S.T. program in the local schools is assisted by WRJ teaching efforts each week.

Physical improvements are made possible by donations from our WRJ. These funds are provided by fund-raising functions held each year. Our annual Labor Day rummage sale is a community MUST! Each year a Purim Gala features an auction of services, gifts, and other wonderful items provided by the members of WRJ and general congregation.

The camaraderie and closeness among the members of WRJ are unfathomable. If an effort affords good will, funds or other aid to any member of the Temple, community, national or international goals, the WRJ will spend whatever effort is required.

Many of our members of the Temple have been working in WRJ for over 25 years. They were involved in Sisterhood (WRJ) in the early years of their marriages and raised their children in the Temple. They remain faithful to WRJ by attending meetings regularly and serving on many offices and committees.

The WRJ organization of B’Nai Israel is a dedicated, cohesive unit of our Temple. It is a place where we can meet and work together for the benefit of our Congregation. By utilizing the multi-talented members of our WRJ, we are able to forge bonds of lifelong friendship and goodwill within our organization and local community. WRJ provides food for our souls by providing opportunities to utilize all our talents for the good of Judaism.
